Dave Read Crosses Major Milestone at Cape Cod Broadcasting
35 Years of Morning Entertainment
HYANNIS- August 20, 2014 — Today marked 35 years hosting radio on the Cape for Dave Read who joined WQRC on this date in 1979. Now the morning host of CCB Media’s Ocean 104.7, Dave’s sailed through the years, noting two owners, several General Managers and “more salespeople than he can count” to make it through to today. The station also honored Donna Credit, Ocean Mid-day host for her 20 year anniversary this year.
Dave was feted by the CCB Media staff at a brunch held in his honor this morning and CCB Media owner Greg Bone noted Dave’s positive outlook, enthusiasm and camaraderie. “Dave understands the importance of local radio and the connection with listeners, the community and our clients,” said Bone. “Dave learned weather from his mentor Don Kent, and he has that same commitment to doing whatever it takes to provide critical storm coverage to our community. But he has a lot of fun too…oh, those puns…if you don’t get the first one you can be sure another one’s coming!”
Dave said, “I enjoy the creativity of radio and the challenge to keep it fresh and interesting. I guess some people think I’m doing a good job, ‘cause I’m still here!”
“We are honored to work with Dave everyday here at CCB. He is a role model for the staff, General Manager, Beverly Tilden said, “His connection with the community and dedication to his work both in the station and around the Cape is a roadmap for any new talent hoping to be a success in the radio business.”
Besides hosting Ocean’s Morning Show, Dave is the weather specialist for the company’s four stations and CapeCod.com. The man most famous for bringing the weather news to Cape Cod traveled from Maine to WQRC where he first broadcast the WQRC morning show in 1979. Dave says he was first attracted to the idea because his wife wanted to be closer to her family in Weymouth. Dave spent 10 years doing mornings then added the title, “Weather Specialist” to his duties and he’s been keeping Cape Codders informed on the ever changing storms, winds and sunshine of the Cape.
Dave is well known in his hometown of Sandwich and is an active community member working tirelessly for A Baby Center in Hyannis, as a Cape Cod Healthcare volunteer and at Bridge to Hope. He’s a frequent traveler and you can see his photos on our Ocean Facebook page…they are a testament to both his passion for photography and the beauty of Cape Cod. When asked how he stays excited about his job after all these years, Dave explained, “I try to keep it fresh and not to repeat things… and after all I have radio to thank for keeping me young!
