CCB Media Appoints General Manager

Hyannis -December 14, 2020- CCB Media, a local multi-media company which owns and operates WQRC, 99.9 The Q, WOCN, Ocean 104.7, WKPE, Cape Country 104, WFCC, Cape Classical 107.5 and CapeCod.com, announced a senior leadership promotion today.

Gregory Bone, Owner, and head of the media group for over 40 years, announced the promotion of Brian Barth to General Manager, effective January 1st, 2021. Currently the Head of Digital Strategy and a 7-year veteran of the company, Barth was instrumental in shaping the CapeCod.com news and lifestyle brand, increasing digital advertising revenues, co-leading the News Center, and advocating new technologies.

“In a year when good news is hard to come by, I am pleased to announce Brian’s well-earned promotion,” said Bone. “He will oversee daily operations of the business. It was an easy decision to promote from within, as our CCB Media team has been working closely with our best General Manager candidate during this difficult year.”

Prior to CCB Media, Brian worked in the healthcare space for over a decade. A “Washashore” from the Chicagoland area originally, Brian lives with his wife (a Cape Cod native) and two sons in Centerville. During the summer, you can usually find him on Lake Wequaquet boating with his sons, coaching little league, or volunteering at the MSPCA.

“I’m grateful for Greg’s confidence in me and am excited to leverage my digital experience to progress the company forward into new technologies and expanded digital offerings, said Barth. “Our goal has always been to super serve our clients in both radio and digital, and there is huge growth potential to use both forms of media as the audio industry transforms.”

“Brian is the right person for the job; he has meaningful radio, news, and digital experience and is an outstanding people leader,” Bone noted. “I will work with him as he transitions to his new role, on long term strategic direction and development going forward, and my door will always be open to our clients, staff, and community. I am excited for what lies ahead for CCB Media.”

Hyannis- November 17, 2020 – CCB Media, the locally owned media group, announced it had won First Place in the Individual Commercial-Radio category of the annual Massachusetts Broadcasters Association (“MBA”) award competition. The Sound Bites Awards recognize excellence in local TV and Radio reporting, promotions, digital use, and commercial production and are judged by practitioners in the field.

“The client was trying to overcome their challenging store location by addressing it in a light-hearted way. Using Barney the Beagle and his canine friend Bernadette -who try to sniff out the store- we were able to have fun and break through with the key message, “says winning CCB Media Director of Creative Services, Steve Marcus. “I really delight in working with clients to solve their business challenges in innovative ways and being recognized by our industry association is wonderful as well.”

CCB Media, the owner and operator of local radio stations Ocean 104.7, 99.9 the Q, Cape Country 104 and Cape Classical 107.5, maintains its own creative and production departments in Hyannis so that clients can have work created, recorded, and produced quickly and in a locally relevant way.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the commercial,” says Barnstable Farm & Pet owner Lisa Wilson. “Working with Steve, our Marketing Consultant Devan Bolinder, and the whole CCB Media team was seamless.  The work fit our brand, and most importantly, we saw an increase in business. New customers found us as a result of Barney the Beagle!”

Cape Cluster Expands Marketing Reach with Digital

It’s no secret that radio and television stations face an ever-growing amount of competition for ears and eyeballs.  They’re also facing an expanding array of advertising competition – mainly in the digital realm.  What are stations doing to adapt to this new environment? One Cape Cod cluster is meeting this challenge head on by offering their own digital marketing solutions to radio and non-radio clients alike… and it’s more than billboards on their website.

CCB Media, formerly Cape Cod Broadcasting, owns four stations on Cape Cod: 99.9 “The Q,” Cape Country 104, Cape Classical 107.5 and Ocean 104.7.  They also run CapeCod.com a regional information site for locals and visitors.  Two years ago, they made the leap from selling digital strictly on their website to offering a complete suite of digital marketing products from display advertising across the web to remarketing campaigns, social media advertising and everything in between.

The cluster partnered with Vici Media and hasn’t looked back.  Local and Digital Sales Manager Melinda Baker says that offering more than radio spots helps CCB marketing consultants, “it broadens our solutions and enhances our consultative approach with a client” and makes for a better partner for local businesses.

With a graphic designer in the building, able to produce all the necessary graphics for digital campaigns, CCB is set up to be an in-house agency of sorts for their local small and medium sized business clients.  Station General Manager Bev Tilden added that the Cape is a perfect place to offer these services as so little of the radio business comes from large regional or national advertisers.  “Many of the local advertisers have a Facebook page, may have “boosted” a post or two but had little in the way of more complex digital campaigns.  This partnership allows radio to be a great activator for digital as the campaigns blend seamlessly.”

Baker credited an incredible training partner in Vici for their digital success and helping them integrate digital into a true consultative approach.  She also pointed out that the addition of digital advertising has brought in revenue that the group would never have seen with radio alone.  An example being a restaurant owner on the Cape who used digital advertising for his other restaurants in Westborough and Foxboro – areas not served by CCB’s over-the-air signals.

As we head into 2017, we encourage all MBA members to innovate and think outside the box.  The future of radio and television depend on it!  Doing something above and beyond?  Let us know about it!  Email [email protected].
