McKenna Joins Cape Cod Broadcasting

JERRY MCKENNA JOINS CAPE COD BROADCASTING AS DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING FOR 4 RADIO STATION CLUSTER!

Hyannis, Oct. 30, 2013 – Veteran Programmer Jerry McKenna joins Cape Cod Broadcasting (CCB) as Program Director of the Company’s four stations — 99.9 WQRC, Ocean 104.7, Cape Country 104 and Classical 107.5 WFCC. McKenna, who will join the company November 25, has more than 25 years experience in programming and record label promotion. Most recently McKenna served as Operation’s Manager and regional Program Director of the Worcester and Springfield MA Cumulus clusters.  The move reunites McKenna with CCB General Manager Beverly Tilden; they worked together twice previously at KISS 108 in Boston and at Entercom’s Star 93.7 in Boston.

“Jerry is well known in the broadcast industry for his success in programming many different formats and most importantly in building and coaching successful programming teams.” stated Tilden.  “Jerry’s strategic, creative and most of all, he creates an atmosphere of fun that really inspires his teams to want to win.  His experience in connecting with the community and developing brands is the perfect fit for our ongoing focus of creating effective marketing connections between our listeners and our advertisers.”

McKenna successfully brought the Cumulus Worcester cluster to market dominance.  At CBS Boston, he programmed MIX98.5 and assembled their very successful afternoon show.  Star 93.7 was another benefactor of Jerry’s ability to build brands and coach teams to create successful morning shows.  McKenna brings a deep knowledge of the record industry having also spent years in New York as Director of Crossover Promotion for both RCA Records and Columbia Records.  As Director of Charts at Billboard, he wrote the Hot 100 column and also managed the Monitor Hot 100 charts. McKenna’s first PD gig was at Hot 106, Providence. He was also APD at WZOU and began his career at KISS 108 as Music Director, both in Boston.

McKenna, a native of East Boston, has enjoyed Cape Cod for years on his vacations.  He is a graduate of Boston University.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity…This will be my third go round with Bev Tilden…She is a marketing visionary….who thinks big!” said McKenna.  “We’re both excited to work with the CCB team to continue the development and growth of these four, powerhouse, Cape radio brands…and just think, this summer I will no longer have to fight Cape traffic…I will already be there!”

Beverly Tilden Named General Manager

Hyannis, Oct. 1, 2013 – Veteran Boston broadcaster Beverly Tilden has joined Cape Cod Broadcasting (CCB) as General Manager of the Company’s four stations — 99.9 WQRC, Ocean 104.7, Cape Country 104 and Classical 107.5 WFCC – as well as CapeCod.com.  Ms. Tilden, whose appointment is effective immediately, has more than 25 years experience marketing Boston’s top-rated radio stations KISS 108 and Sports Radio WEEI. She also worked as a corporate marketing executive at AM/FM Radio, the predecessor to Clear Channel.

“Bev is well known in the broadcast industry for her success in building brands and managing teams to both programming and sales success,” stated Gregory Bone, CCB Managing Partner.  “Bev shares the CCB vision for creating a media company that connects with Cape Codders and provides access to our local community for our clients.  Her experience in developing new marketing programs and client-services will be invaluable to us and our advertisers.”

While at KISS 108, Tilden headed up marketing strategies that fueled the KISS Concert into the iconic music festival that sold out without any on-air promotion. She was on the team behind ‘EEI’s Jimmy Fund Radiothon which raised $1 million in its inaugural year and continues to add to that total every year.

Tilden, a Falmouth resident and UMASS Amherst graduate, developed the marketing effort for numerous radio brand launches at AMFM including the “Worst to First” start of WKTU in New York.  She was also Vice President of Marketing at Mass2One Media, one company that pioneered radio with digital audience and advertiser engagement.

“Greg Bone and his team have a great group of stations and websites,” declared Tilden, who was twice named to Radio Ink magazine’s 20 Most Influential Women in Radio.  “I look forward to working with CCB to continue their success as well as lead them to some new frontiers in digital media, especially with our website CapeCod.com.

“That being said, I want to lead radio back to what made it great years ago – live, local, community-focused radio and with the digital assets to enhance our effectiveness,” she stressed emphatically.  “Our Cape Cod listeners deserve nothing less.”

Prescription Drug Take Back April 27th

CAPE COD BROADCASTING AND FALMOUTH PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH CAPE-WIDE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO TAKE BACK UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS APRIL 27 AT LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS

Hyannis, MA – Cape Cod Broadcasting in cooperation with the Falmouth Prevention Partnership is launching an awareness campaign years to prevent pill abuse and theft by educating listeners about the proper disposal of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

On April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most Cape Cod Police Departments and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted medications.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. To locate participating collection sites you can bring medications for disposal please visit CapeCodBroadcasting.com

Promotions and Community Relations Director, Kim Lucas announced that beginning Monday, April 22nd,  99.9 WQRC, Ocean 104.7, Cape Country 104, Classical 107.5 WFCC and CapeCod.com will broadcast a week-long awareness campaign educating and informing listeners about, teen prescription drug abuse, environmental ramifications and the potential for home break-ins from improper prescription drug disposal.  These informational messages will also promote the DEA’s Drug Take Back date on April 27th.  Lucas said, “We hope that by sending a consistent message on all our stations and CapeCod.com that we inspire people to take advantage of the Take Back event.  Our goal is to increase awareness here on the Cape, reduce youth substance abuse and protect our environment”.

Last September, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.  In its five previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2 million pounds—over a thousand tons—of pills.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. “National Drug Take Back Day” is important tool in addressing one of the root causes of youth prescription drug use which is availability.” states Patricia Mitrokostas, Program Director for the Falmouth Prevention Partnership.  She goes on to say, “We can reduce availability by targeting a primary source of access, your home’s medicine cabinets.  Also removing unused prescription drugs from the home, residents become less vulnerable to crime through theft of medications. ”

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

The Falmouth Prevention Partnership is a partnership of health professionals, educators, public safety officials, faith based organizations parents and youth working as partners to reduce substance abuse and other risky behavior.  They are a community effort committed to building a healthy and safe environment for our youth.

Locally owned and operated, Cape Cod Broadcasting’s “we’re here when you need us” pledge is part of our continuing commitment to our local communities.  Cape Cod Broadcasting dedicates resources and promotional support to many local organizations, like the Falmouth Prevention Partnership to serve the people who live here.
